The BSF for Bio Circular Economy and Environmental Sustainability (BBEST) led by IITA in collaboration with the Institute of Rural Economy (IER) welcome H.E Elianne Rigmor Koti and Melissa Sovik from the Norwegian Embassy to the BSF centralized unit in Mali. The visit Highlighted the impactful work of the NORAD-funded project in the country.
Dr Sissoko elaborated on the project activities in the country and showcased the results they have achieved. He noted an increase in the production of the BSF fresh and dry larvae, and BSF frass and how the project has impacted the lives of farmers through capacity-building.
The visit provided firsthand information on the rearing of flies; the substrates used to feed the larvae, the fly’s life cycle, the drying methods, the use of the dark room, the sources of the waste among others, and the progress made by the project in the country.
The delegation visited the mass production unit at the Centre Regional de Recherche Agronomique (CRRA) and the technicians showcased the BSF products namely the eggs the larvae and the frass that were produced.
The BBEST project and its partners have reiterated their commitment to address any challenges that will arise during the ambassador's visit.
