Shiferaw Feleke is an Agricultural Economist at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He is the leader of the Value Chains, Markets, and Agribusiness Research Program. Before joining IITA in 2014, he worked in the Agricultural Policy Analysis Center (APAC) of the University of Tennessee. He has over 20 years of experience in agricultural research, policy analysis, agricultural productivity analysis, and impact assessments.

His research interests include applied value chain developments, market analysis, circular economy, technology and policy impact evaluation, and international development. He has published several articles in high-impact journals, such as the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Food Policy, and Agricultural Economics. Shiferaw holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Florida.

Shiferaw is working on the Work Package II: Business Model for Mass Production of Chicken and Fish Feed and Organic Fertilizer, focusing on Activity 2.4: Business models for profitable production of target BSF-based products. He analyses the financial viability of producing two novel products (i.e., black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) as animal feed and BSF frass (BSFF) as organic fertilizer) from BSF-based biowaste processing in small-scale and medium-scale BSF treatment facilities in Accra, Bamako, Bukavu, Kinshasa, and Niamey.
