Professor Faustin LITALEMA LOKINDA is a research scientist at INERA, working with National Livestock and Aquaculture Research Programme, which aims to improve livestock and aquaculture practices to meet the country's growing food needs and improve food security. They undertake research on the genetic improvement of animal breeds to improve productivity and disease resistance, and sustainable breeding techniques are being developed to maximize production while preserving the environment. They also explore the integration of livestock farming with agriculture to improve food security and farmers' incomes. INERA is working with national and international partners to fund and implement this research. The expected spin-offs include improved quality of livestock products, higher yields and reduced rural poverty.
